  1.          DECISION ON IMPROVEMENTS TO THE GATT DISPUTE SETTLEMENT

  5. The Ministers,
  6.  
  7.       Recalling the CONTRACTING PARTIES' Decision of 12 April 1989,
  8.  
  9.       Noting that the improvements to the GATT dispute settlement rules and 
  10. procedures are being applied on a trial basis until the end of the Uruguay 
  11. Round and that a decision on their adoption should be taken before the end 
  12. of the Round,
  13.  
  14.       Considering that the continuation of the improved rules and procedures 
  15. is necessary for the effectiveness of the dispute settlement mechanism,
  16.  
  17.       Decide,
  18.  
  19.       To invite the CONTRACTING PARTIES to keep the above-mentioned 
  20. improvements in effect until the entry into force of the Understanding on 
  21. Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes contained in Annex 
  22. 2 of the Agreement Establishing the Multilateral Trade Organization.
